The OS/2 is an operating system (OS) for personal computers. It was introduced in the late 80s. Originally it was developed by IBM and Microsoft. OS/2 is compatible with both DOS and Windows, which means that the OS in theory can run all DOS and Windows applications. But, programs written exclusivly to run under OS/2 will not run under DOS or Windows. The market share of the OS/2 is very small because a number of technical and marketing problems happens in the very beginning. Finally, Microsoft canceled the project in favor of its own OS, the Windows-family.
