Family of silicate minerals containing varying amounts of iron, magnesium, calcium and aluminum as well as silicon and oxygen. Commonly formed in minerals. They are often seen in schist or gneiss and look like tiny, glassy red dodecahedrons or spheres. Also found in some granitic and mafic igneous rocks.
