A new type of television system that delivers pictures with more than double the lines of resolution (i.e., about 1,000) and clarity of conventional television systems (525 to 625 lines).
While early forms of HDTV used analog technology (as does conventional television), the new approach in the United States and elsewhere relies on digital technologies that could facilitate the integration of broadcasting and personal computer-like functions.
